A farewell (circa 1988)

A farewell (circa 1988)

Miss me not my love,
For I,
My spirit,
My very essence am just a shared presence
Of all that which makes things free
I was there in the Indian brave
Who fought, and died,
Knowing there could be no victory.

I’m in the panther as he walks,
Softly stalks
A lone shadow in the jungle night
And in the arrow’s lethal flight
As it leaves the outstretched bow
Know, my love
That I can be found
In the thunder storm
In that flash of lightening
That shatters darkness
And rumbles in the rain;
Hear my cry when eagles fly
It is I calling out your name!

See me there in that lonely pine
That digs its roots into the barren rock
Struggling to survive
And I’m alive, my love
In the watchful eyes of the owl
Baron of the forest night
Hear me in the howl of the pack
When it assembles to attack
Hungry for the kill;
And I’m there in the will
Of the fisher
In its beating heart
As it chews through bone, nerve and sinew
To escape the iron trap!

You’ll feel my essence,
My feral presence
In all things that roam wild
And live to be free
And then my dear
Shed your tears
For you will remember me!
